Art and society - CDC

The arts have the potential to disrupt our daily realities, offering us a mirror or interruption of our normalized everyday life. In multiple contexts around the world, various artistic disciplines are activated in social, peacebuilding, historical memory, and cross-cultural communication projects.

As such, the applied arts in contexts of crisis and social conflict can serve as a tool for recognizing inequalities and building a common (artistic) language. Disciplines such as theater offer a social, bodily and emotional space to recognize a common humanity and advance in dialogue. Theater values diversity and sees conflict as an opportunity to strengthen skills and to deepen the understanding of social and political dynamics.
Through art, it is therefore possible to foster an environment open to social transformation, which is needed globally to address climate change, diverse social conflicts and growing inequalities and exclusions. The goal is to foster greater awareness and creativity, transforming tensions into opportunities for growth for the communities involved.
